Friday July 30th and Saturday 31st at 8.30pm.

These are free to the public. Doors open at 6pm. Entrance to Summergarden is through the entrance at 14 West 54th Str. The music is a true crossover between jazz, classical and world music with a touch of funk. The rhythmic language of the piece is a melting pot of world music influences from the Balkans, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, mixed with a modern jazz articulation and some funky brassy hits. The classical influence has to do with choice of instrumentation and use of developed forms. The jazz influence lies in the harmonic and melodic approach, the presence of improvisation, as well as the energy level.

Other works will be performed by composers Gabriela Ortiz (Mexico), Kaija Saariaho (Finland), and Melissa Hui (Hong Kong).
