With increases in material and technological applications to design, a psychological distance has been created between the user and her/his understanding of the object. As a designer, I am most concerned with investigating different ways in which the human element can be returned to the object designed for production.

In each of my designs, I attempt to cultivate a dynamic in which the human presence is amplified in the functional aspect of the piece. I use the term trace to delineate that which becomes a part of these designs in the form of a temporal, sensory record of use.

Built into each object is the predisposition for future relationships. My design strategy anticipates a flexible, individuated relationship between user and object. I employ combinations of adaptable and responsive materials and technologies into my designs in order to allow the user to create a personalization of her/his experience. What was once personal choice has been cultivated into a preprogrammed susceptibility to interaction. In this way, the simple act of use becomes a functional seduction.
