Laurent Elie Badessi was born in France in 1964. He studied Communications
and Photography at the University of Paris. His works explore connections
between nature and the human body through simple and direct compositions.
"With my pencil I first sketch the concepts I envision, and with my
photography I freeze this harmony of form, matter, and colors by drawing with
light. The photographs ... constitute the results of this research. The
body becomes line, curve, texture, and then contrast, combines to create a
symbiosis uniting the fragile and the sharp, that tender and tough, black and
white, masculine and feminine, mankind and nature."
"Our fleshy envelope is so close to us, yet at time we forget its
resemblance to nature. plants, rocks, mountains, sand, salt, water, animals and
human beings are all natural elements. they are also the elements from which I
create my photographs."
His work also appears regularly in internationally recognized magazines such
as Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, Elle, Black and white and is part of several highly
regarded photography collections. His recent book SKIN by Edition
Stemmle/Abbeville Press included comments from dozens of well known artists, from
Pedro Almodovar to Philip Glass to Andres Serrano. Mr. Badessi's exhibitions in
this year alone take place in New York, Rome, London, Los Angeles, Milan and
Santa Fe.
