The interior structure of buildings depended upon their type, size and function. Outhouses were less well built than residences. Two forms of roof were known, ásaŝak (ridge-beam roof) and sperruŝak (spar-roof). The former was the older, simpler form. The spar-roof, a later innovation, was regarded as superior, and was first used in churches and manor-houses. Research shows that the farmhouse at Stöng in Ŝjórsárdalur had a triple-beamed roof.
