ELENA CARLINI AND PIETRO VALLE
PROJECT FOR THE NEW BOOKSHOP AND LOBBY OF THE MUSEO REVOLTELLA IN TRIESTE,
ITALY 1998

The Museo Revoltella is the main art museum of Trieste and is located in a
19th century building that was partially renovated in the 1960s by Carlo
Scarpa. The bookshop serves as the new entry to the museum and provides a
space for the public to hang around and browse through publications and
merchandise. Instead of locating wall shelves we proposed to create a
freestanding V shaped wood structure equipped with windows/cases and placed
in the center of the entry space of the museum. The structure acts as a
portal/visual frame to look and walk through. It invites exploration and,
in time, it unfolds multiple fronts equipped with different displays.
